says there will be no divorce

Published on March 3, 2012 by alwsbord

My husband of 37 years told me he doesn't want to be a husband anymore. He met a Phillipino women online and fell for her, even went so far as to fly to see her.We live in different states because of his job. Now he says there will be no divorce because there would be to many penalties on the brokerage account and retirement accounts. He makes all the money while I only make about 15,000 a year. Please help I don't know what to do. I don't have the money for a laywer.

You can get a free consultation from a lawyer. I would recommend going. When I got a divorce, I had to pay $2500. Maybe the lawyer would agree to accept monthly payments from you, or delay payment until you get alimony. I don't know, but going to a free consultation couldn't hurt. In many states, you are entitled to half of his retirement savings and half of his pension. You should also be entitled to alimony and if you have children under the age of eighteen, child support.

Of course he doesn't want a divorce. He would have to pay you all these things. Don't let him get away with this, where he gets what he wants and you are left with nothing after investing all of those years with him. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Some women decide it is better to stay legally married to a cheater just to get the medical insurance and tax benefits. But you need to consult an attorney. If he has brokerage accounts and retirement accounts, those funds are partially yours. You aren't as poor and destitute as you think. You have a lot of protection under the law, but you will have to find an attorney to help you.

Legally you can divorce him without his agreement if you wish to. You need to investigate your state to find out what the property settlement laws are. Here's a link (just remove the spaces): equality in marriage . org/ wdget.html
