How do I take a break from a friendship???

Published on August 1, 2012 by blossom2486

My best friend and I are very close. We are with each other 24/7, and it has gotten to the point where I'm getting tired of her ... People know us as (using fake names) " Sue &Molly" "Molly & Sue" . And I just want to become more of an individual and make more friends that just her, and I believe the best way to do so is taking a break from our friendship.

No, I don't think you should take a break. That would be hurtful to your friend and may totally end the friendship. What you can do is start making plans with others, and if your friend asks you to do something, tell her you already made plans. Be firm about not letting her invite herself along. If she expects you to hang out normally on a Friday, say that you need some alone time. This will get you out of your duo routine, and when you're not available, she'll probably start seeking out her own new friends as well. If she questions you about the changes, be honest. Tell her you hope to always be friends with her, but you feel the need to expand as a human being and have new experiences with a variety of friends. Good luck.
