Does anyone find the words cougar and cub offensive?

Published on February 29, 2012 by peanutgardener

For years i acted like it didnt bother me until one day i just had to say it. It does bother me to hear the words cougar and cub, especially when they are being used to describe you and the relationship you are in. Although i am currently single, i was in a relationship where she was 20 years older than me, and those words bothered me more than anything else. If a grumpy old man buys a 20 year old woman with his wealth, nobody says anything, but if a woman dates a guy 10 or more years younger than herself, she has instantly made herself a cougar and him a cub, according to many in society. I would love to hear your comments.

I agree completely. It is ridiculous. Age is irrelevant and age differences are only an issue if there are other incompatibilities in the relationship. Those incompatibilities revolve mainly around having children. Women who are older possibly are not able to conceive when younger man would love to have children of his own. Other than that the issues are essentially irrelevant. The important issues are love and respect and chemistry. If all three issues are in synch a relationship can survive and thrive even if the age difference is as great as Harold and Maude.
(that is a movie worth seeing for those of you who are too young to know!)

labels, targeting a person and placing a label on them is not verty good etiquette.
