Religion and race *shouldn't* be big deals, but every study on marriage and divorce says they are. People of different races and different religions divorce at higher rates. That's just simply the truth.

If he's Indian (Hindu?) then I think his parents will have a lot to say about the person he marries. That is a very traditional society and they have a long history of high parental involvement with arranged marriages.

Good luck and best wishes.

Also, Indian families that have immigrated to the U.S. do so for educational opportunities. They value a good college degree.

If I were you, I would get serious about my education so that I can move up in life too.

First and foremost, it's religious, not religionist. That's not even a word.

Great, now that we got that out of the way, here's the deal; LOVE SEES NO COLOR. If you and your boyfriend could care less about your skin differences, then that's all that matters. Because it is YOUR relationship, no one elses. If it's to an extreme where his parents say that he can't marry anyone who isn't Indian and he's not willing to fight them on it and marry who he loves regardless of tradition, then that's just the fate of your relationship. Talk to each other, have a serious conversation. Figure out a solution sooner than later before too much time is invested that you may never get back. Good luck! :
