Mother-in-law coming between marriage?

When I first married my husband I thought my MIL was the sweetest thing ever. Very nice, went out of her way to help, very giving. Then I gave birth to our first child and she did a complete 360. She began to be more critical of me, how I was raising our child, she became more demanding of my husband. Fast forward eight years and I have come to the realization that she is very manipulative and has no respect for my husband. For example, if she request for my husband to do something for her and he does not do it when she wants him to (no consideration for his schedule) she not only complains to all the other siblings about that, but also about everything else she feels we are doing wrong which she does not tell us about. The end result is that all of his siblings (who are older, he, my husband, is the baby) call him on the phone and tell him to "shape up or else." When he calls to talk to her about the situation she either denies saying anything or she says that she did not ask them to call or that she did not want them to take action or says she did not mean it. She does not apologize. This is not the first time this cycle happens
( she gets aggravated, tells other siblings, siblings threaten, she denies, my hubby forgives) I also get the phone call from one of the siblings. At times I feel that she wants complete control of his life. My husband and I have discussed this at length without any resolution. He says we are at her mercy because we live in her house, we pay rent. Excuse me, but I don't think that warrants insults or threats. It is so emotionally draining. I mean I literally get sick at the thought of having deal with her because she is just two-faced and manipulative. I feel like I am going to have to make him choose between us (me and kids) or his mom. And I should not have to she should have enough sense to let him live his life. I can't even broach the subject with my MIL because she gets mad and storms off. Do I have cause for corncern? What should I do?

AS LONG AS YOU ARE IN HER HOUSE YOU ARE UNDER HER THUMB. IF YOU DO NOTHING ELSE MOVE OUT!
