Romantic involvements of political figures, does it really matter?
No need to re-hash it; we all know about the senator, and his mistress. We know about the senator and his "event" in the Men's room. We all know about the former president, and the intern, cigar anyone? How about a stained dress? Former presidential candidate cheating on his wife with cancer?
Are these things really our business? Okay, I can relate if the sexual conduct is illegal, but most of the time it isn't, so why are we so interested as a population?
If they are doing the job that they are elected to do, why can't they have a personal life? An elected official's sex, romantic life is none of my business, so why is it front page news?
I just think those type of private affairs should be kept between the individuals that it affects the most, not the entire country. With nearly 10% of the population unemployed, 2 wars, millions without health care, etc, can't we concentrate on what really matters? I don't care where they rattle headboards!

I agree the American public is waking up to privacy. It is not our business. We do not know what the relationship really is/was and what agreement had been made.
Qverb: I have a update for you Paris and her sister worked very hard to be richer than their parents. Because you do not seem to understan the real world of work. It is not 9 to 5 but usuing what you got to make money, Many "stars" do the same outside of the US shilling bee,r wine ,cars, etc. The Hilton's produce clothes and handbags and nerver stand still.
The problem is hypocrisy I vote on substance not hot air, and really hate two faced politicians.
I think that in most cases the private lives of politicians are no one's business but their own. However, when a candidate makes a public stance on something, say family values, the public expects them to live up to what they are preaching. Basically, the public now sees this person as a liar. Even if no laws were broken and it was totally unrelated to their career they have cast doubt on their honesty and sincerity. It does not help that there are also plenty of lies that are told in order for these relationships to happen and continue. It simply makes you question the integrity of our officeholders.
While I'm largely on board with you on this, its pretty self evident that sensationalism sells here. More people vote on a regular basis for their favorite American Idol contestant then they do for their elected politicians.
The point at which I appreciate the coverage, to some degree, is what their stance was concerning other moral issues that they spoke or campaigned openly about versus what they actually do personally in regards to those issues. Also, when it comes to a politician using my tax money to pay for his get away and not leaving control to someone else while he is somewhere out of reach then I would definitely want him gone. He isn't doing the job he was paid for and abusing the money that pay out of every paycheck to supposedly make this country a better place.
Here is the rub on what a politician says versus what he does. His campaign should be centered around his belief, but, when in congress, his voice is supposed to reflect the voice of the people who voted him in. Definitely not saying it actually works that way, but its a good idea our forefathers had.
Still, sensationalism is what sells. This is why a girl as vapid as Paris Hilton can afford the life style she has without actually having anything to offer.
Kinda makes me sick thinking about it.
