hell yeah! i agree with cathy in the screwing around part b/c my ex of almost 2 years did that bs..taking a break means that its ok if you see other ppl and he will be happy with your decision because he already doing his dirty wrk hun,,
In my experience with my boyfriend of FOUR YEARS it means he is screwing around! I strongly advise that you stay vigilant about his excuses, and beware! I got my heart broken by the man I thought was going to be with me for the rest of my life when he decided it would be a good idea to pay for a MARRIED woman with THREE KIDS that he met on the internet to fly across the country to attend a medical conference with him! Now that he is busted, he swears on his life that he loves me and wants to be with me forever. He cannot understand why I am having nothing to do with him - after all, "he just needed a break" from our relationship! He makes me sick! I told him to call his FAT MARRIED LOVER to come and console him because I won't be here for him to decide he needs another "BREAK!!!!!" I'm sorry that you are having to deal with someone who is telling you that he "just needs a break!'
It means he is feeling suffocated with your relationship the way it is right now. Either the relationship gets onto a different footing you both accept or, more likely, changing it wont work for either of you, so yiu need to move on.
In my experience, anytime a man says that they need a break, it's a - I guess you would say - their nice way of breaking up with you without saying they're breaking up with you.
It's time to move on. It'll take time to get over this, but with the help of friends and family you should get through this. Keep yourself busy but also allow yourself to mourn the end of your relationship. And remember, this is just a speed bump in the road to finding the real thing.

Ask him what he means or just move on. No one needs unexplained time away from the one they love. If he truly loves and respects you and need something from you, he has a reason. Ask him or move on to work, a new friend, or something you enjoy!
It can mean a few different things. It can mean that he is just needing some guy time or alone time. He just needs a break but is overall happy with you. Or it could mean that he is getting ready to end it and just needs to make sure it is the right thing. It depends on how the relationship is.
