How much should I spend on my wedding?

My fiancee's dad won't be able to help very much with our wedding. I have an amount of cash saved, but how much is too much to spend? I am NOT going to take out a loan or charge expenses - cash or nothing. Question is, how much cash?

I agree with benbree, and would add one more thing if you can afford it: get good photography.

Hi Kataroo,

Spend what you can afford. If a simple wedding with just you, your significant other, and the preist works, do that. There is really no need to pour money into this. Yes, I hear you about the memories, big day, and all that. However, the most important things are the two of you and your legal and honest union - family and friends can celebrate with you later. And you will be able to afford a great party. Good luck!

Spend what you think you need to have a great day for YOU (and your bride). Don't spend to make everyone else happy. If a backyard and 2 kegs works for YOU, do it. If you need something a little fancier, you might have to pony up some cash. The wedding is a symbolic day and will be a memory for a lifetime, but it should be what YOU want.
