Identify your positive changes post-divorce. Make it a growth experience!
A run has never returned me exactly the same. I go, I grow. Kristin Armstrong
This quote was my inspiration for revising my thinking about before and after. “Before,” as in before one of the partners goes, and “after,” as in after they go, or post-divorce. The “before” is often a rose-colored view of the way we were. It’s like when someone with whom you had a terribly conflicted relationship dies, and you remember only the good times. It’s nice, but unrealistic.

Don't worry-- You're NOT losing it!
Do you ever feel like you should be more experienced, further along or more on top of things in your life? That you should have an amazing career, the perfect husband and a clear sense of who you are and where you're supposed to be? Worse, that you should already 'be there by now?'
It's time for a reality check.
Staying in touch with friends can add endless joy and laughter to your life.
How to keep your friendships alive despite your busy schedules.
We're all busy. Let's face it. Our lives are busy. Sometimes between family, work and other obligations, your friendships can slip through the cracks. Sure, you "like" her status on Facebook but when is the last time you gave her an actual phone call? For some friends like one of my best friends, this is totally cool. She lives far away and I see her once or twice a year. We might not talk for months but when we're together, it's like we never left.
Good news for those struggling with the concept of getting older. There's much to look forward to!
Open a magazine or flip on the tv and you will notice a disturbing trend. Most of the people you’ll see are young and free of wrinkles. And tan. And in shape. And seemingly, endlessly happy. This of course, implicitly (and explicitly) sends the message that happiness lies in youth. And while we are all aware of the joys and benefits of being young (and even what’s scary about aging), how many are really in touch with the ADVANTAGES of getting older? Stay tuned and you might just look forward to what lies ahead.
How a simple Facebook letter can increase your happiness
In the 1700s the prominent belief was that people would have to be threatened and punished to do good deeds for one another. The common saying was that people had to “be threatened with hell, and promised heaven” in order to be positive players in society. Along came Frances Hutcheson, philosopher and teacher, who noticed that people are at their happiest when they are helping another human being. It was recognized that stepping outside of oneself and not being self-absorbed lead to the happiest of times.

Being nice can lead to a happier you AND a better relationship!
It's important to be nice...it will make your relationships better. Here's a little formula to help!
Someone famous once said, "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice." That's easy to remember when life is good, but it's more important to remember when you're faced with a challenge, especially when that challenge is in your romantic relationship, when the tendency is to shut down or go on the attack. I've tried both of those tactics and I wouldn't recommend them if the relationship is important to you.
Your success rate is a question of control, reinforcement and good old-fashioned will power.
Happy New Year! The holidays are over and we are back to work. I came to my desk this morning to find some delicious candy surprises in a little goodie bag. While I was settling in for the day and breaking into one of the bags of M&Ms, I realized that I have already officially broken both of my New Year's resolutions (cutting back on the sweets and eating at my desk).

Do you have fun every day? The kind of fun that Cyndi Lauper knew that girls wanted to have, although she chose to ignore the poor guys! The fun that makes you run out on a sunny day and play in the park with or without children? The type of fun that makes you crank up the stereo and go dancing through the house bellowing at the top of your lungs, despite the fact that dogs are howling outside? If you don't do this on occasion, you're really missing out! In fact, you could be self-sabotaging your everyday goals by not incorporating fun into your daily existence.
I have a system that gauges how happy you are—and adds to it. Want to know the secret? Read on.
I was feeling really stressed the other day. But I wasn't sure how stressed until I was walking to the car and noticed the lemon tree and herb garden in the corner of our backyard. The leaves on the tree and plants were withering up and nearly browning on the edges, with weeds of grass sitcking up through the dirt. And that's when I knew: I was buried under. And I needed to readjust the balance of my life—fast. So I did. And I have that lemon tree to thank for it. Why? Because I've come to see our garden as the measuring stick of my happiness.
