When it comes to dating in the modern age, the vast amount of rules we tend to listen to and follow without question makes finding the one incredibly stressful. Just how many dates should you go on before you have sex? Despite being one of the most popular questions asked by Ok Cupid and the rest of the online dating world, pinning down the answer isn't as easy as simply checking off an option.
There have been studies that broke down what the perfect dating profile looks like, but we have yet to come across someone who has one until now. NYMag.com went to OK Cupid co-founder, Christian Rudder and OKTrends data to find the most desirable singles on OKCupid. One was awesome enough to share her best five online dating tips.
OKCupid recently announced plans to give users the option to pay a fee to weed out "unattractive" users — those who describe their body types as "overweight," "a little extra," "full-figured," and — most unsettling — "used up." But by eliminating less-than-perfect users from search results, the site is about to become an even bigger minefield.
Infographics make things easy for us. That’s why we love them. OkTrends, a site that gathers data from profiles on the dating site OkCupid, has created a merger of two things everyone loves — sex and infographics. This set of charts covers everything from how many times a week students expect to have sex based on their tuition to how often Twitter users masturbate. Oh, and some vegetarian-friendly sex slang is in there somewhere. That’s something we can get down to/spend half an hour scrolling through.
What's the correlation between Twitter use and sex drive? Or between the word "grammar" and rough sex? This week, OkCupid published a series of infographics revealing the quirkiest sex trends among their extensive user base. You can see the charts for yourselves over at the OkTrends blog, but here are a few of our favorite factoids:
OKCupid was first launched in 2004 and is a free online service that draws in about a million people monthly. For $50 million in cash, Match.com has snatched the site up in addition to their other purchases such as People Media and Singlesnet. Though Match.com has around 1.8 million users, Greg Blatt, CEO of IAC, thinks OKCupid's "younger and more casual users" could be an asset.
According to OKCupid’s most recent findings, you can improve your dating luck online by keeping this rule in mind: Take whatever you think some guys don't like—and play it up.
How does your race affect what you enjoy? It's a question everyone ponders, but that people rarely try answering for fear of non-PC implications. Enter the popular free dating site, OKCupid. Earlier this week, the company released a trend report, titled "The REAL 'Stuff White People Like,'" which used infographics to present the hobbies, tastes, interests and self-descriptions of various ethnic groups. To complete the study, OKCupid analyzed the personal essays in half a million of its user profiles to isolate words and phrases specific to each racial group. The results were funny, if not stereotypical and a little pop-culture heavy. White males like Tom Clancy, Harley Davidson and Van Halen, while white females went the escapist, sentimental route, claiming to enjoy Nicholas Sparks, bonfires and horseback riding.
