Royal Wedding: Prince William & Kate Kiss Twice On Palace Balcony

Prince William Kate Middleton balcony kiss

A wedding just doesn't feel official until it's sealed with a kiss, and for Prince William and his new wife Catherine (i.e. the duchess formerly known as Kate Middleton,) their royal smooch took place on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, following their carriage ride through the streets of London. Actually, make that smooches, plural!

After planting an all-too-quick kiss on Catherine, the prince, goaded on by cheering crowds that reportedly started to chant "kiss her again!", went back for another, slightly more lingering kiss. And although it wasn't quite the grope-fest that Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York's first married kiss was when they appeared on the balcony following their 1986 wedding, it was definitely more passionate than the chaste exchange that William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, shared when they first started the tradition of post-wedding, balcony kisses after their wedding in 1981.

According to Clarence House's official royal wedding website, Prince William and Catherine, along with the rest of their family and friends, will now head to the Queen's lunchtime reception for 650 of the wedding guests, including many dignitaries and heads of state. In addition to canapés and champagne, the royal revelers will also have a chance to indulge in the eight-tiered royal wedding cake, which was made from seventeen individual fruit cakes and boasts 900 individually iced flowers. There will also be a "chocolate biscuit cake" that Prince William specifically requested to be served as the groom's cake, as it is reportedly a childhood favorite of his. Prince William & Kate Middleton Are Married!

In addition to cutting both cakes at the lunchtime reception, Prince William and Catherine will also listen to some speeches that will no doubt center around the topics of marriage and love. (We wonder if Prince Harry's best man toast made the cut, or if he's saving it for the more casual, nighttime reception when he can get away with being a bit cheekier?)

Either way, we hope that someone reports back about the evening reception. With three Buckingham Palace rooms turned into a nightclub and Prince Harry as the host, we have a feeling that there won't be anything traditional about it!
