7 Hollywood Husband And Wife Oscar Winners

Hollywood is built around the glories of romance, and the Academy Awards have frequently rewarded charismatic on-screen couples. But celebrity couples haven't fared quite as well; only a few actors and directors who paired up off-screen have both won Oscar gold. This year, Kathryn Bigelow is up for a Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker; she'll go head-to-head against her ex-husband and Avatar director, James Cameron, who's already won the award for Titanic. Below, we'll take a look at the Hollywood husband-wife duos who have both brought home Academy Awards. 25 Romantic Films Oscar Missed

MICHAEL DOUGLAS & CATHERINE ZETA-JONES
One of the industry's favorite May-December romances belongs to Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose marriage is still going strong despite a 25-year age difference. Because of—or maybe despite—the age discrepancy, they've only made one film together (Traffic, released in 2000, the year they were married), and they didn't appear as a couple. But both have taken home Oscar gold: Douglas won Best Actor in 1988 for Wall Street and shared a Best Picture prize for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1976 (when his future wife was only 7-years-old); the Welsh starlet took her Academy Award home in 2003, winning Best Supporting Actress for Chicago. SAM MENDES & KATE WINSLET
Often overlooked because he's a director with no on-screen presence, this British cinema duo nonetheless deserve respect for their ability to choose films that are often artistically daring critic's darlings but still manage to draw in crowds. Mendes proved that he could quite capably direct Winslet—to whom he's been married since 2003—in last year's Revolutionary Road.  He won a Best Director Oscar in 2000 for American Beauty, and she got hers in 2008 as Best Actress for The Reader, to go along with her five previous nominations—quite a feat for a woman of 32.

PAUL NEWMAN & JOANNE WOODWARD
The intense Paul Newman and the classy Joanne Woodward were perhaps Hollywood's ultimate power couple. From the time they married in 1958 until Newman's death 50 years later, they starred alongside each other in a dozen films, and Newman directed Woodward in a handful more. During their time together, he won three Oscars (Best Actor for 1987's The Color of Money and two honorary statues) and was nominated for nine more; she took home her Best Actress Oscar the year they were married for The Three Faces of Eve and was nominated for three more over the years. JACK NICHOLSON & ANJELICA HUSTON
Jack Nicholson is not only one of Hollywood's greatest actors, he's also one of its greatest womanizers. Still, Anjelica Huston managed to keep him tied down (though they never officially married) for more than 15 years until their 1989 split. Nicholson's won three Oscars (Supporting Actor in 1984 for Terms of Endearment, and Best Actor in 1976 for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and 1998 for As Good as It Gets) and been nominated for nine more; Huston's came in 1986, when she won Best Supporting Actress (opposite Nicholson, and directed by her father) for Prizzi's Honor, and has netted two more nominations since. LAURENCE OLIVIER & VIVIEN LEIGH
Two giants of the Golden Age of Hollywood, this British couple was married for 20 years, but they made only two films together (Fire Over England and That Hamilton Woman) during that time. The legendary Sir Laurence Oliver is one of the most-nominated actors of all time; he won three times (Best Actor for 1949's Hamlet and two honorary awards) and was nominated a stunning 10 more times. His wife was no slouch herself: though nominated only twice (Best Actress in 1940 for Gone with the Wind and 1952 for A Streetcar Named Desire) Leigh won both times.

TIM ROBBINS & SUSAN SARANDON
Though famous for their political activism and their smoldering scenes together in Bull Durham, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are arguably just as famous for having had a high-profile Hollywood romance—and two children as the results of it—without ever getting married. During the course of their 21-year relationship, they became one of the industry's most recognizable couples, but mutually decided never to tie the knot—since they broke up in 2009, maybe they made the right choice. Robbins won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2004 for Mystic River, and was nominated in 1996 for directing Dead Man Walking; Sarandon took home her Best Actress gold that same year for the same film, and she'd been nominated on four previous occasions.

WARREN BEATTY & EVERYBODY
It's a little unfair to include Warren Beatty on this list; he's probably slept with every female Academy Award winner since 1960. But he definitely belongs, and he made it easy on us by dating a few high-profile superstars who matched him Oscar for Oscar. Beatty—who won a Thalberg award and a Best Director Oscar in 1982 for Reds, as well as six other nominations—has been romantically involved with the likes of Julie Christie (three nominations and a Best Actress win in 1966 for Darling) and Diane Keaton (three nominations and a Best Actress win in 1978 for Annie Hall).
