Dating Disaster: Double-Dating My Ex

double date

Blind dating is like playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun. Something is bound to go wrong. I had been working at a retail department store for about six months when one of my newfound friends/co-workers approached me with a favor. She had met this "really great guy" and he had asked her out on a date. She was scared to go alone, so she asked him if he had a friend. She would bring a friend of hers and it could be a double date.

My first clue that the night was not going to be one of my brighter moments was when I discovered she had never met the guy in person. They had met online in a chat room. Red flag #1. She assured me he was OK. She had seen his picture online. Red flag #2. Dating Disaster: A Double Date Gets Double Drunk

I asked her where he was from and she said he had never really told her, but it was only about 20 minutes away. It didn't dawn on me until later that I knew people who lived approximately that far away. I stopped asking her questions when I realized she probably hadn't done her research on the guy and that she only wanted me along for moral support... and safety.

We got ready and proceeded to the local sports bar where we were supposed to meet our respective dates. We found a table and ordered drinks. By this time, I was waiting just to see what kind of guy my friend would go for. We had been there approximately 10 minutes when my ex-boyfriend walked in with a buddy of his. I thought to myself that the night was looking up because now I would get to see the new girl he had been bragging about for the last month. Dating Disaster: Stop Crying And Get Off My Porch

I positioned myself for the fireworks, waiting for the chance to laugh my backside off. It took about two and a half seconds for me to realize he was looking at my friend. As they wandered towards our table, I watches as the look on his face went from eager anticipation to sheer horror. I was not going to miss this for the world.

As they sat down, he noticeably began to squirm in his seat. My friend made the introductions with both my ex and I admitting that we had already met. I didn't know whether to wait and destroy her illusion after the date, or inform her now that he had done nothing but cheat on me the entire year we had dated. I decided to wait. It was more fun watching him sweat, knowing that I could rat him out at any moment. The date ended after about an hour and a half. On the way home, my friend asked me if I thought he liked her. I said, "Honey, he likes everybody. He's my ex."
