Every year, the awards season manages to not only bring forth new trends, but also offer insight into the glamorous lives of the largest names in the industry. With the amount of cameras lying in wait for the perfect celebrity looks or juicy scandals, it's safe to say that award ceremonies provide great fodder for clever gifs and memes. The 2014 Oscars Awards ceremony surely didn't disappoint. In fact, some of the best moments of the Oscars ceremony involved seeing our favorite Hollywood hunks trade in their arm candy for their number-one fans: their moms.
Check out some of the Hollywood studs we love, who brought their moms as dates to the biggest party of the year.
1. Jared Leto
Jared Leto has been praised by critics and fans for his incredibly raw and honest portrayal of a transgender person living with HIV in the Academy Award-winning film Dallas Buyers Club. Leto took his mother, Constance Leto (and brother, Shannon Leto) along for the ride. "In 1971 ... there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child," he began. "She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for her children ... that girl is my mother, and she's here tonight." We can't be the only ones who got misty listening to this beautiful man say such beautiful words. If you haven't seen Leto's acceptance speech in full you must.
The always smooth Matthew McConaughey opted to hit the red carpet with both his gorgeous mother Mary Kathlene McCabe and beautiful wife Camila Alves in tow, proving that there is no stronger bond than familial love. The actor later won one of the highest awards of the night, the Academy Award for Best Actor, and delivered a very personal and heartfelt speech. After making the strategic switch from romantic comedies to more serious roles, there's no question that this beloved actor is doing more than "alright, alright, alright".
3. Michael Fassbender
Nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, this Irish-German hottie strutted down the red carpet with his favorite leading lady, mom Adele Fassbender. In an interview with Flicks & Bits, Fassbender stated that he used a human approach when playing Edwin Epps, a despicably cruel Louisiana plantation owner, in the powerful film 12 Years A Slave. While he didn't take home the prize, the amount of fame that this movie has brought him is just as vital to his career.
While our imaginary boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio's dating reputation certainly exceeds him (and therefore his list of potential dates is endless), it didn't come as much of a surprise that he opted to bring his beautiful mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, as his plus one. Everyone (Leo and his mother included) waited with baited breath to see if his infamous Oscar curse (four nominations, no wins) would be broken. Alas, despite losing to McConaughey in the Best Actor category, DiCaprio took it all in stride and warmly congratulated his friend and Wolf of Wall Street co-star. Mama taught him well.
5. Jonah Hill
Jonah Hill, our all-time favorite funny crush, also escorted his lovely mother Sharon to the Oscars where he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. In one of the most hilarious moments of the night, Jonah Hill hijacked Bradley Cooper's interview on the red carpet, cementing his status as a comedic genius. We wonder if he gets that from his adorable mom who was all smiles.
