Study: Women Get More Bisexual As They Grow Older

Like most women, I have no shame in admitting that I find other females attractive. I have even admitted to being open to experimentation ("Of course I would sleep with Halle Berry! It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity"). For women, it's perfectly acceptable to be a little bi-curious (cue every male fantasy), and according to the latest research, it's the norm.

The following 9 celebrities announced their sexual orientation the best way they knew how, and they all admit it was the best decision they've ever made. Hopefully, their experiences will inspire others today to come out from hiding. If they could do it, so can you.

'L Word' Star Kicked Off An Airplane For Kissing Her Girlfriend?!

Yesterday, 'The L Word' actress Leisha Hailey was kicked off a Southwest Airline flight for kissing her girlfriend, Camila Grey, an L.A.-based musician. According to Perez Hilton, the two had boarded the plane and were already in their seats when they decided to have a pre-departure kiss. The Southwest flight crew noticed, and told them that kissing each other wasn't allowed on their Airlines because their company is a "family" company. Family is often a word used to ostracize anyone who isn't heterosexual.

Will A New Hook-Up iPhone App Kill The Dating Scene?

If you have gay male friends, you've probably heard them mention Grindr at least once, if not a thousand times. For those of you not familiar with the app, it uses GPS technology to track other gay men in your vicinity available for "meetups." According to one of my single gay friends, this app has "revolutionized his dating life." Another calls it "a slutty hookup heaven." Soon, we'll be able to draw our own conclusions. This week, the company is launching a version of the app for heteros called Project Amicus.

Study: Men Are OK With Lesbian Cheating

A new study from the University of Texas at Austin found that men are more than twice as likely to stay with their girlfriend after they've cheated with another woman than after they've cheated with another man. We ladies, on the other hand, are less likely to continue dating a man that has had a same-sex affair than one who's slept with a woman.

Cynthia Nixon To Tie The Knot

Sunday saw hundreds of gay couples getting married in New York's city hall. It was the day the new law legalizing gay marriage went into effect and state officials had big plans to marry all 823 couples, both gay and straight, who applied for licenses that day. There were cheers all around the state, and among the elated couples were Cynthia Nixon, of Sex And The City fame, and her longtime girlfriend, Christine Marinon.

Freedom To Marry Brings New Pressures To Gay Community

Honey Davenport was in character, performing his usual set at a Manhattan drag bar. Clad in a rainbow leotard and platform heels, he took a swig of his drink and ripped off his wig—sweaty and exhausted from the hourlong performance. Suddenly cheers erupted: New York's state legislature had legalized same-sex marriage, and on the eve of gay-pride weekend. Davenport's boyfriend made his way to the stage and got down on one knee. "Will you marry me?" he asked.

Study: Most College Women Don't Have Lesbian Flings

Shocker: unlike what popular culture might suggest, college campuses aren't actually a hotbed of lesbian experimentation. In fact, the National Survey on Family Growth reveals that women who didn't finish high school were more likely to have engaged in same-sex activity than women who graduated with a bachelor's degree.

Facebook Adds Relationship Status Aimed At Same-Sex Couples

In what's being lauded as a victory for the LGBT community, Facebook has added civil unions and domestic partnerships as relationship statuses for users in the United States, Canada the United Kingdom, France and Australia. The feature, which went into effect last Thursday, allows you to choose either of those options (or "in a Civil Partnership," for those in the UK), in the drop-down menu of familiar statuses like "Married," "in a Relationship," and "it's Complicated."

Should Gays Be Allowed In The Military?

It's true that having gays in the military is not a novel concept. Israel, for one, allows open homosexuality in the military, and some military intelligence units are known to have large numbers of gay soldiers. And history is replete with examples of homosexuality and military service. In Plato's Symposium, Phaedras writes that "no man is such a craven that the influence of Love cannot inspire him with a courage that makes him equal to the bravest born." The idea was that a soldier would fight more strongly for someone they were in love with than someone they weren't. Which, when you think about it, explains why all the Spartans in "300" ran around in loincloths. (And yes, I quoted Plato… gotta use that expensive liberal arts education for something…)
