When you deprive yourself of the foods you love most, your diet will inevitably fail.
Clair prides herself on being really good when she diets ... until she isn't. Then she is really, really bad and can't seem to help herself. The moment she gets derailed and succumbs to food she knows she shouldn't have, she is taken over by an insatiable desire for all the foods she's been denied the past few weeks. The pattern is always the same, as it is for millions of people who diet every month.
Compassion and inner-strength will help you heal from tragedy.
"The Dark Knight Rises" may just have the answers to help us recover from the Colorado massacre.
Out of respect to the families who were affected by the Aurora, Colorado shooting, I challenge each of us to dig deep into our souls and share our compassion with these families. Across the globe, we are all deeply affected by this senseless loss of life and its tragic aftermath. How can we make sense of something that doesn't make sense? How can we move forward knowing even a movie theater is not a safe place? The Dark Knight Rises is a great example of the mythic hero's journey. The hero's journey is one way to develop your inner strength. You can't attain inner strength by depending on others; you can see others as mentors, but the task or call is yours to figure out. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" is the motto for good mentors.
Green Relationships
I taught a Sunday School class once that included children ages 6-12. I wanted to teach the kids how to create a vision board as a fun way of seeing what was important to them and making their dreams a reality.
One of the things I loved about this experience was the way it made clear what was going on inside these wonderful little humans.
We had some of our best discussions during this project. The kids let down their guard and opened up more when they were looking at magazine pictures and had glue on their hands.
My first awareness of the impact that habits have on our enjoyment, success and experience in life came when I read the best selling book, The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.
I have to admit, I read that book with a combination of hope and doubt about my own ability to rise to such a disciplined way of life.
BORING was my biggest fear, right ahead of having to see that I was not destined for the kind of success that the author spoke of.
Studies show that showing some gratitude can improve overall relationship satisfaction.
We're all well aware of the top relationship-strengtheners: mutual respect; communication; a satisfying sex life; a mutual affinity for frozen pizzas. But sometimes, boosting your satisfaction within a relationship can be as simple as saying thank you. Is gratitude the key to a happy relationship?
Once the province of cheesy porn involving toy hand-cuffs and very tight cop uniforms, the phrase "You have the right to good sex!" should be legislation in Ecuador, a politician there says. Though her idea was eventually scuttled as being not appropriate for Ecuador's constitution, the female politician sparked debate in the deeply religious country.

Does a store-bought card make you think of deforestation? A bouquet of flowers conjure images of pesticide pollution? Whether for yourself or your Al-Gore-inspired Valentine, here are three gift ideas that will keep the conscience clean and happy.
