The average American will gain some weight over the holiday season. While we may hate this fact, consider the even worse news: most people don't lose it after January 1. If your weight has crept up over the years, then it may not be your age that's at fault. Just living through these weeks, year after year, can do the trick. So, not gaining weight during the holiday season is truly its own worthy goal.
GETTING THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS
In the last year, it seems as though being single has been my specialty. While flings and hookups have come and gone (pun intended) and dates have left me with some less than desirable memories, my current single status has remained loyally by my side. I've learned a lot in the past year and I've discovered that single girls around the world are all in the same fabulous pair of shoes.
Yep, the holidays are here. It’s December 23—the work day is ending early, the final bows are getting tied and the fruitcakes are being boxed to regift. Ha! If your holiday haze is getting thicker and heavier, here are a few ways to release the ho hum and bring back the wow! For this to work, you’ll need your holiday honey.
My husband came with me to pick out a tree and he put it up in the stand for me. But then he sat down on the couch, turned on the TV and tuned me and my good tidings out. I, of course, responded by getting upset. And then I was upset because I was upset on Christmas. It was all downhill from there. Three hours later, I had decorated the tree amid gripes, nags and sniffles, and I wasn't feeling any sort of goodwill toward men.
The holidays, and winter in general, are for couples. I swear, I'm not beating my usual "life is cruel for us singles" drum, because we pretty much own spring and summer. In winter, though, people pair off and disappear like the end of a key party, and we're of just left sitting there on the couch in our Fair Isle sweaters, wondering where everybody went.
Some assembly required, batteries not included. Tis the season of miracles! Whether your tradition includes the birth of a Christ child or not, the Holidays bring with them a cherished renewal of hope, peace and joy, all of which are miracles in this often challenging and troubled world. It seems every holiday movie has in it a message of miracles abounding. The Holiday season truly is one of miracles.
