Buzz, Self

Don't feel bad about cashing in on your happiness!

Do you LOVE to spend money? We do, too!

There are a gazillion great reasons to fork over some cash, swipe that card, and otherwise spend money on memories and things you cherish. What would charities, the internet, and the world economy look like if no one spent their hard-earned money?

As financial planners, we, of course, encourage couples to save and plan for their future. But we also encourage clients to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Money causes so many people stress and worry, but sometimes you just have to lighten up and remember ... like with anything in life ... a change in perspective helps making money (and spending money) seem so much more fun.

So, if people shame you for spending your dough on things and experiences that delight you, just rattle off a few of these pro-spending quotes and shut them all up.

4. "Always live within your income, even if you have to borrow money to do so." — Josh Billings

10. "If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it." — Unknown

11. "Money is a guarantee that we may have what we want in the future. Though we need nothing at the moment it insures the possibility of satisfying a new desire when it arises." — Aristotle

12. "I love money. I love everything about it. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a $300 pair of socks. Got a fur sink. An electric dog polisher. A gasoline powered turtleneck sweater. And, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too." — Steve Martin

13. "Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes." — Zig Ziglar

14. "Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it." — Benjamin Franklin

So, save wisely. But, also, spend joyfully! Don’t let anyone shame you about your natural desire to spend the money you earned! Aristotle, Benjamin Franklin, and Steve Martin can’t all be wrong!
