About Terry Chapman

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety and trauma related issues.  In addition I work with individuals coping with grief and loss, life stage challenges and ethnic issues.   I assist individuals in learning resiliency and moving toward their life goals.  My practice, TLC Collaborative Counseling, is located in Fairmont, WV.

I have 4 years of experience as a therapist, beginning my career in a behavioral health unit of a hospital before transitioning to private practice.  I’m a graduate the West Virginia University Graduate School of Social Work in 2010. Following graduation while working at WVU Chestnut Ridge, I sought additional training in the treatment of trauma at The Insitute for Advanced Psychotherapy Training & Education, Inc. in Baltimore, MD, completing trauma certificate levels 1 & 2.   I completed levels 1 & 2 basic training in EMDR at Fairmont State University with Roy Kiessling, LISW, (EMDRIA Approved Trainer and Consultant) and completed certification in this modality under consultation with Bruce Hersey, LCSW, owner of Heartspace Wellness Alliance in Altoona, PA.  I am fortunate to be currently pursuing certification in Dr. Brene Brown’s, The Daring Way™ methodology under the consultation of Lu Duke, LCMHC, CDWF-C, CSAT.  In May of this year I began level 1 training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).

I practice a collaborative approach to therapy. My philosophy is that healing and change can only occur when the client’s own strengths and skills are identified and utilized in treatment planning. My approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively clarify and address personal life challenges.  Then I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.  I strive to bring compassion and understanding to each individual I work with as I help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
