Advice for when you're playing the field.
The Chicago Cubs haven't played in the World Series since 1945, which has been a long 70 years! The hope and tenacity of Cubs fans in Chicago, and all around the nation can actually teach some valuable lessons about dating.
1. Don't give up
The Cubs have faced some challenges in the past, from the infamous “Curse of the Billy Goat,” to the unfortunate fan who thought he was catching a foul ball. That being said, the Cubs have kept playing, kept trying.
The same lesson can stand in dating, as well. People go on bad dates and have gone through nasty breakups, but quitting is not the answer in the dating world. Taking the time to recoup and recover is necessary, the Cubs get a break between seasons too, after all. Getting yourself back out there again is crucial, though. Dating and relationships may challenge you sometimes, but finding someone special is absolutely impossible if you give up.
2. Rough patches DO end
In case you are unfamiliar with the Curse of the Billy Goat mentioned above, a man attempted to bring a goat into Wrigley Field in 1945, was denied, and cursed the Cubs to continuously lose. Whether the Cubs actually get to the World Series, or win it, doesn't matter because this is still the best they have done in a long time.
Just as the Cubs rough patch has broken somewhat, and may be over completely, rough patches end in dating as well. It may have been a while since you have actually had a date, or may feel an established relationship is going through hard times, and these things take time to fix. The rough patch may end slowly, with progress being made little by little. Just look at it this way, at least your predicament is fixable, and not a seemingly unshakeable curse.
3. The future is unpredictable, so continue to be optimistic
The big joke circulating is that the Cubs have to be in the World Series, since the movie Back to the Future II predicted it. It’s important to remember that the World Series is still in the future, as promising as that might look for the team.
Whether you’re dating future looks bright or dreary, just remember to stay in the moment and not let predictions overtake you. Planning for the future, especially if a relationship is getting serious, is fine. The future is still not predictable, though, so plans may not always unfold correctly.
With the Cubs potentially closing in on a spot in the World Series, perhaps it's time to get back into the game of dating. Perhaps if you take our advice, you can find a date to take to one of the historic upcoming games.
