Fear Of Public Speaking That Is Stronger Than Death?
By Sharon Wilson. Posted on .
I recently found a study that absolutely amazed me. It said that fear of public speaking ranks higher than fear of death. I can’t imagine wanting to die more than speak in public…but according to this study, there are lots of people who can. As a Spiritualpreneur, we have many fears but there are ways to overcome them to become the best you can be and expand on your business.
One of my clients, Joe is terrified of public speaking. He has a new book being published and a promotional tour being set up and so he came to me for help on how to get over his fear since he will be speaking publicly all the time on the tour. I told him that every goal has beliefs that are activated. He needed to find what beliefs were serving him and what weren’t.

Joe knew that the information needed to be in the world, he would be serving people and he would be helping people. These were all beliefs that served him. Now, the beliefs that weren’t serving him were that people wouldn’t understand him because he is very academic, people would judge his appearance, he would stumble over words and he would lose his train of thought. These were beliefs Joe had formed from previous speaking engagements that he had undertaken.
I taught Joe the Progressive belief shifting system that is taught in my programs. Once he understood this system, he became comfortable speaking and even enjoyed it. It has opened both professional and personal opportunities that were not there before.
Do you have a fear of public speaking that is stronger than death?
Some tips to work on:
• Envision the experience and your feelings and see people connecting to you
• Partner with Spirit and ask for the words to flow through you
• Communicate on a heart to heart basis as if you are talking to one person only
• Be detached from the outcome. Don’t go in with an agenda because people can see that
• Trust yourself. Speak about something you know and are passionate about
Allow yourself to see the outcome of your speaking event and feel what you want to happen. Seek your inner guidance to help you in what words to say to have an impact on your audience.

When you are speaking, imagine that there is only one person in the room that you are having a conversation with and connecting to on a heart to heart basis.
Don’t go into an event with an agenda. People know if you are there to help them or sell to them.
You have to trust in yourself. Present material on something that you feel strongly about and have knowledge on. This connection between you and your topic will help you to connect with the audience.
