About Robert Salinger

I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over twenty five years and see individuals and couples. I have been in full time private practice since leaving Bristol Hospital where I spearheaded development of a variety of therapeutic programs throughout the course of ten years. I am a strong believer in continued training, and for the past twenty years have been a member of an advanced training group in Eriksonian hypnosis.I had the honor of training for ten intensive years with Richard Erskine, PhD, and Rebecca Trautman, RN, ACSW, founders of the Institute of Integrative Therapy. It was during my training that I developed a passion for working with clients experiencing the after-effects of sexual, emotional, and physical trauma. I began working with stress related problems in 1983 and established a comprehensive stress management program for Bristol Hospital. My emphasis is on the emotional and physical manifestations of stress, and their connection to adaptive coping learned early in life in order to adjust to family dysfunction. People come to me because they are in pain, either in their relationships or within themselves. I am a resource for referrals from local physicians for patients with depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and chronic illness. It is my hope to bring my sense of humor and ability to be fully present and engaged into each session. My office provides a safe space overlooking a lovely woodland, and is both professional and comforting. Within this peaceful environment, I support the sometimes difficult and frequently rewarding experience of my clients as they learn and develop new ways to live more fully.
