About Ralph Butcher

Finding the right therapist can be challenging. And it makes sense that you would want to feel comfortable with the person who will bear witness to your life’s journey. So let me share some information about myself, and perhaps you will develop a sense of who I am and how I will work with you.

First of all, the clients I work with include individuals, and couples. As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and Imago Workshop Presenter, I specialize in couples work. In 2007, I trained with Dr. Patricia Love, author of Hot Monogamy, and became certified to work with couples in their challenges regarding sexual intimacy. My belief is that couples heal and grow in the context of a committed relationship. Thus, I will teach you and your partner the communication skills needed to create the level of safety required for this growth and healing to take place. For the individual seeking therapy, my approach is supportive and you will also learn how to increase your coping skills with life’s challenges related to depression, anxiety, grief and loss. For individuals who desire to embark upon a new relationship, I will help you make sense of the struggles you experienced in the past, so you can learn the art of co-creating the relationship of your dreams for the future.

Looking back at my 25 years of experience in the airline industry I was blessed with the opportunity to visit over 20 countries. In my own journey I developed a deep appreciation for the many different cultures I encountered. This extraordinary experience has given me a greater understanding and empathy for the diverse population of clients I see in my practice today. Moreover, my training as a psychotherapist was a natural fit for my role as a first responder for the CARE Team in the airlines following the disastrous attack on America in 2001. Working as a Critical Incident Stress Debriefer grounds me in the work I do with individuals who have lost a loved one, or experienced other forms of trauma.

Quite differently, my 10 years of stage acting is noteworthy, not because of any performance I may have given, but rather for the personal work calling upon me to get in touch with all aspects of myself, giving way to my own growth and healing. While I am still on that journey of self-discovery, this new found energy gives life to the humorous, informative, and engaging workshops and seminars I present with my colleague in our San Ramon office.
