The Danger Of The Collegiate Hookup Culture

The Danger Of The Collegiate Hookup Culture
Embracing hookups over developing quality relationships is a dangerous choice for educated women.

4. A bad relationship pattern will develop. The idea that actions do not lead to consequences is foolish. Guys will treat you with less respect if you engage in hookups and, as seen in the interviews, date rape is not out of the range of possibilities. You will develop a harmful relationship pattern and mindset which will be difficult to break. Being treated as not worthy of a relationship will affect your heart, even though this pursuit was initially your idea. This behavior will not stop after graduation because your mind will rationalize that you must now focus on a new career and cannot have the distraction of a committed relationship, marriage or children. You will convince yourself that the "me" time should be extended. Before you realize it, your 20s will be long gone.

5. Not everyone is hooking up. Living a sexually promiscuous life is an unwise choice, and will eventually lead to heartbreak. It is not a sign of an independent, strong woman; it is a sign of emotional and spiritual immaturity. Sleeping around with multiple guys throughout college is damaging to your emotions. It is vital to learn that the people with whom you hang out now will drive your destiny.

College is an opportune time not only to reach academic goals for launching a promising career and developing your skills and talents, but also for embracing the coming together of your peers. And you should not discount the possibility of meeting your future spouse; being open to love at a young age is not equivalent to giving up your professional dreams and aspirations.

Establishing this poor relationship pattern will sabotage what you believe may come with love. After all, what’s the use of having it all materially if you do not have anyone you love to share those accomplishments with?
