Once we practice this with other activities, we can begin to practice being present in the moment while making love. You can start with lying down with your partner and having each of you get in touch with your own body first. Really feel your body and notice all the sensations and feelings. After you have connected with your own body, make contact with your partner's body beginning with a simple touch of the arm, hand or face while remaining completely present to the touch. It can be especially powerful to maintain eye contact, which will help you to stay in the here and now with your partner.

Maybe you want to only practice being mindful for a little while before making love as usual. That's okay. Be mindful as much as you feel comfortable. Allow it to increase naturally. This will result in a much fuller experience of the pleasurable sensations as well as a much deeper intimacy.

 

The conventionally speedy way that we usually make love in this modern world limits and reduces the extraordinary experience of making love in all of its glory. Mindful sex allows us to physically and consciously create love and deep intimacy, nourishing us on transformative levels.
