I Believe

The only way to get over it, is to go through it. Although the process can be quite painful, once you reach the other side, you realize it was worth it. Life is to be lived...on your ...

About Me

Feeling stuck, disillusioned by life, by your relationships, or struggling to figure out what direction or the next steps to take? I get that. Managing the ups and downs of relationships, the disappointments of marriage, and the challenges that life often brings, isn't easy. Relationships are complex. People are complicated.

My passion for helping people, helping couples, is unwavering whether I am in my role as a Clinical Psychologist or a Divorce Mediator. As a Psychologist, I help couples address their challenging issues in hopes of salvaging their relationship or marriage. As a Divorce Mediator, I work hard to help couples get an "amicable divorce."  You need a tough skin to manage the level of conflict that couples bring to therapy. After all, they never thought they would find themselves sitting across from a marital therapist or a divorce mediator. That was the last thing on their mind. But, here they sit trying to figure out how to salvage what is left or move on from a marriage that is no longer healthy and viable.

My twelve years of clinical experience practice as an individual and marriage and couples therapist, has taught me a few things. I bring this same experience to each session helping individuals ans couples overcome their relationship challenges, rekindle the romance, and get their relationship back on track. Whether you are experiencing struggles with addictions, infidelity (emotional, physical, financial), parenting, sexual, or communication challenges, I am here to help.

Engaging, open, collaborative, honest, and empathetic (with a little humor when appropriate) are words that I would use to describe my approach to helping people. I create a safe environment (a must!) so that each person feels comfortable expressing how they feel while sharing some of their most difficult, challenging, and intimate details of their life.

Collaboratively, we address and untangle underlying issues and work on "connecting the dots" in your life and help make sense of your past and how it connets to the present and the unchartered waters of your future. My approach is eclectic but I use many skills and strategies inherent in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.

I realize that making life changes is not easy. I have had to make many changes over the years and have experienced similar struggles and setbacks. However, I see people change everyday right before my eyes. I have a front seat to couples, once on the brink of separation or divorce, work through their issues and stay married. I see people become more introspective and reflective so they don't repeat bad habits and make the same poor choices in relationships.

My last word...Ultimately, the goal is one of creating lasting, positive changes in your life - whatever those changes need to be in your life. After all, we are only here for a short time. Cultivating healthy relationships that lift us up and are supportive and not reinforcing negative and relationships is key to living your best life possible.

The Reason I Became A Helping Professional

I didn't take what I consider to be a traditional path to becoming a psychologist - a path that started off in psychology and remained in that field, ultimately pursuing advanced degrees. My path was much more eclectic. My previous experience encompassed training and teaching martial arts, owning and operating a coffee house, working for a state run Children and Youth Agency, and working with a company that privatizes prisons in the mental health and social services. It was on my 38th birthday, that I decided to go back to school and obtain my doctorate in clinical psychology. While getting that degree and starting a private practice, I got divorced. But the divorce didn't stop me, it just gave me more motivation.

My road to where I am today is one that is filled with ups and downs, good decisions and not to good decisions, a little success and definitely some failure. I am still a work in progress, but aren't we all?  My life experiences and journey thus far has I feel,  placed me in a position to help others who are experiencing the same or similar challenges - life transitions, divorce, poor relationship choices - get to the place they need to be and learn how to embrace their own personal journey. That is what my work is all about. That is what drives me and creates the passion that I have for my work. Helping people. Feel better. Change their life. Made better decisions. Walk down and sometimes run down a different path.

Ultimately, I want to help people become their best version of themselves.
