“The only way over it, is through it. Sometimes painful, but necessary for growth and renewal.
About Kristin Davin, Psy.D.
I am a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in marriage, divorce, dating, and relationships. I describe myself as a relationship builder - meaning I help people build better relationships with their spouse, partner, children, siblings, parents, co-workers, or friends. I help divorced couples become better co-parents and strive to build happy families - whatever those families might look like. As social creatures, we thrive on healthy relationships - it makes us feel more human, more connected. Relationships help define who we are and the life we have created for ourselves. They make us feel connected and safe in this big world we live in and without them we feel disconnected, lost, and alone.
I have been described as a 'straight shooter', honest, compassionate, and present. My approach is engaging, open and collaborative - with a touch of humor (because that's critical in life). Rather than focusing on problems, I am a solution focused therapist. I look for strengths in every person and couple - because we all have them. I help people learn how to look at their problems differently - with a different lens and canvas - so they can start to create solutions. I facilitate effective communication strategies so they can work through their impasses and create more effective solutions. My approach is integrative, using the skills and strategies inherent in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
With all that said, I recognize that seeking help isn't always easy. But I have found that people do so because they realize that it's necessary. They recognize that they are in a place in their life - mainly stuck- and need to find a way out. Although their friends and family provide support and guidance, they have also recognized that its just not enough anymore. Something has changed in their life. They have experienced a 'tipping point' and need to 'pivot.' And that's where a therapist comes in. And despite being a little apprehensive, every person knows that. And that's how I help people - every day. Whether you feel stuck, disillusioned by life, or troubled by your current relationships, I can help.
As I move into my 13th year of practice, the need to feel connected, to have healthy relationships, to feel good about yourself, find purpose in your life is as strong as it ever has been. And in our complicated, rat race world that never seems to sleep, the need for all of those things, has become that much more important. I certainly get that. Moving to NYC four years ago and having to start over, has been at the very least daunting. Re-establishing a practice, finding friends, spending time with my family, and finding love was magnified with my major life transition and overhaul. So, when I work with people who are feeling overwhelmed, but want and need healthy relationships and a healthy balance in life - I get it.
Still not sure? I offer a free 15 minute consult - in person, phone, or Skype so that you can make sure I will be a good fit for you! Let's connect!
Individuals and couples bring a lot to the table - both in terms of issues and strengths. I help couples overcome their relationship challenges, rekindle the romance, and get their relationship back on track. I tackle addictions, infidelity (emotional, physical, financial), parenting, sexual, or communication challenges. Many of these are inherent in every relationship.
