There is something about the holiday season that makes us think it's acceptable to throw everything we know about eating properly out the window. Food suddenly becomes a glorious gift wrapped in rich, sweet and delicious temptations that we love to open, enjoy and divulge in. We convince ourselves that it’s useless to try to eat healthy at “this time of year” and give ourselves permission to lose control all day, every day until the guilt finally sets in.
Guilt is an intense emotion. One definition of guilt says:
“A feeling of responsibility or remorse for some offense, crime, wrong, etc., whether real or imagined.”
After reading this definition you’re probably thinking - “Yep, that’s how I feel.”
It's time to start to look at “dieting” as the food you consume (take in) versus something you go on. Flip the idea you have in your head about what a diet is. Just try it.
Today is the day that you should start to look at your diet (aka - your daily intake of food) as something you control instead of you feeling out of control. Here is the exciting part: I really do believe that you are fully capable of NOT depriving yourself of foods you want to eat.
The minute you deprive yourself of some kind of food is the minute that you are more likely to partake in more food. Your two minutes of pleasurable eating is almost always followed by hours of guilt.
