About Ken Howard
Many clients seek me out because I am an openly gay, openly HIV-positive, licensed psychotherapist, and they want to talk with someone who really understands gay men's issues from a professional and a personal perspective.
I have been a specialist in gay men's issues, helping individuals and couples, practicing gay-affirmative therapy for over 22 years. I am in full-time private practice in Los Angeles (near West Hollywood and Beverly Hills), and I teach part-time for the USC School of Social Work, graduate MSW program, for courses in advanced clinical practice.
Beyond the gay men's cultural issues, I help clients with problems related to depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD/ADD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders, as well as coaching for relationships, sex, assertive communication, anger management, recovery from addictions, building/managing a business, and (since I work in Los Angeles) supporting self-employed creative professionals in the entertainment industry (actors, writers, singers, models, designers, producers, etc.) to do their best work and cultivate their best success.
I "walk my talk", and I live and work in the same community that I serve. But because gay-affirmative therapists can be rare outside of large cities, I also provide therapy sessions via phone or Skype to clients in other towns/cities in California, and provide coaching services to people who live outside of California, or anywhere in the world.
I am in my office Monday through Friday, and I have several clinical staff associates who offer sessions on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday), who use many of my techniques and work under my employment and supervision. These include both gay and straight professionals.
