About Kate Arms

I am a leadership and relationship coach. When people come to work with me, they are frustrated by important relationships in their life (personal or professional) and having a hard time juggling their responsibilities and their desires. They want more: more fun, more fire, more intimacy, and more aliveness. They also want less: less stress, less worry, less clutter, and less judgment. Most importantly, they want to feel in charge of their own lives.

I get it. I am a Recovering Serious Person. I spent my early adulthood moving from grumpy, overworked lawyer to lonely, overwhelmed stay-at-home mom of four, busy martyring myself, trying to be the kind of adult I thought I was supposed to be. I was miserable. And then, one day, I woke up and realized that unless something radical changed, my kids were going to grow up believing that life sucks and there is nothing they could do about it. That thought horrified me. So I changed. I rembered how to laugh at stupid jokes. I learned I could giggle uncontrollably at unfortunately-timed farts and still get the dishes done. And along the way, I found my calling as a coach.

Now, I help others turn their challenging circumstances from traps to opportunities.

Working with me, people learn how to live fully and how to create what they want from what they have. They feel vibrantly alive as they take action towards their most meaningful goals. They create the relationships they crave and integrate their personal and professional lives into a satisfying whole.

The foundations of my coaching practice are the ethic of play, strengths-based growth models, mind-body integration, and respect for the wisdom each of my clients hold about their own lives and practices.

I am particularly skilled at working with men who know they need to develop emotional intelligence but aren't sure where to start, women who have been told they are too intense, men and women who suffer from mild to moderate anxiety and depression, folks who suffer from Imposter Syndrome, and people with more interests than time to pursue them. I have helped clients with family and parenting challenges, improving relationships with difficult colleagues, and other situations defined by hard conversations.

After working with many clients on interpersonal issues that arose in the context of their struggles to assert their own creative spirits in various contexts, I have developed a model for healthy relationships that can be applied in any situation: Side by Side Living.

My coach training is from The Coaches Training Institute and the Creativity Coaching Association, and I am a certified InterPlay Leader.

When I am not working, I am usually hanging out with my 4 children and our pets, acting or directing with local community theatres, or at the ice rink playing Ringette or managing a team.
