We can’t control everything that goes on in our environment. We can’t control when things are going to go completely south just as much as we can’t control when we might suddenly hit huge success. We work really hard in our lives for various things and then one day our mother gets cancer or, conversely, we win the lottery and BAM! If we don’t have a solid, deeply rooted foundation we can get knocked so far off course it’s not even funny.
The one thing we have complete control over is setting a really strong foundation for ourselves. We can control how deep our roots grow into the bedrock of the little plots of land we’ve been given just by the very nature of being alive. We can become like strong, deeply rooted, giant oak trees whose leaves blow in the wind, but who cannot be knocked over.
There are three main components to creating this foundation:
1. Spiritual Health – Simply put, spirituality is the connection to the quietest places within yourself where the noise and the chatter is shut off and you can actually hear your own inner voice. Spirituality is deeply personal. For me, twenty-minutes of daily meditation has helped shape me… the stillness is calming and moreover aligning. For others the practice is much deeper, much broader. My best friend is a Buddhist and he chants every day, multiple times a day, sometimes for hours. For others it’s far less. Finding something in yourself, for yourself, even if it’s just 5 minutes a day of stillness will change you, your alignment within yourself and to the outer world in more ways than can be stated. When we are in alignment, we have our antennas sharply tuned to the Universe and things start happening we can’t explain. It’s like all the kinks are out of the electrical cords and the current can run freely; there’s give and take and synergy and it can be incredibly powerful.
2. Physical Health - Exercise releases endorphins, which increase serotonin levels in your brain, which means it will make you happier! It will give you more energy! Scientific fact!! No matter how you feel about yourself NOW, start exercising, start moving your body and you will feel better. That is a promise. I go to the most amazing gym in the world in Pasadena (breakthrufitness.com) where they challenge me every day to break through my physical and mental barriers all in the most nurturing, loving and fun community I’ve ever had the honor of being a part of. Not everyone has access to that kind of support, but there are numerous online resources available. On my website I have a list of some of my favorites. Or go for a 30-minute walk every day out in the sunshine. It'll do wonders.
Nurture your body by feeding it nutrient-rich foods and staying away from processed foods as much as possible. On my website I have a page of Quick and Easy Trader Joe’s Meals to help jumpstart you into healthy eating without it being too hard or too complicated. You don’t have to be perfect, but do something good for your physical body every single day. Soon you’ll realize how addicted you are to feeling good!!
