How You Can Use Mindfulness To Start The Day
Family, Self

Your morning rituals will impact your entire day, you must set the stage for how it will unfold

In order to receive the best that life has to offer you, it’s essential that you get off on the right foot every day. A familiar routine will be your foundation; helping you live a more productive and vibrant life. Because your morning rituals can and will impact your entire day, you must set the stage for how it will unfold.

This is how you can use mindfulness to start the day.

Begin with an attitude of gratitude

Start your day with a positive attitude. Focus on things that you are grateful for; what you focus on will become your reality. Gratitude is about being aware of what you have, rather than what you don’t. Practicing gratitude will turn what you already have into enough.

The physical and mental benefits of practicing gratitude can significantly increase overall well-being. Take the time to reflect on things you’re grateful for and begin to experience positive emotions, better quality of sleep, and deeper connections with others.

You deserve a fresh start

When you wake up in the morning, realize that you have a new story to write. Don’t allow the events of yesterday carry over into today and drag you down.

A fundamental component of mindfulness involves acceptance; give yourself the choice of what it is that you’re bringing to mind. This means that you must consciously pay attention to what you’re thinking and feeling at any given time instead of allowing your mind to rehash the past or imagine the future.

You have 24 brand new hours ahead of you; vow to stay focused on the day ahead and live each new moment to the fullest.

Read something inspirational

When you wake up in the morning your first reaction may be to pick up your cell phone and begin checking texts, emails or social media. Because you're in a highly defenseless frame of mind a better choice would be to take a few minutes to read something positive and uplifting.

Even if it's just a few paragraphs or a short passage from an inspirational book, reading something calming will help reset your emotions. The smallest positive thought is creating your future and can transform your entire day.

Awaken with a mindful meditation practice

Comparable to the way that fitness is an approach to training the body, mindful meditation is an approach to training the mind. It is a discipline of purposely engaging your attention on your thoughts, feelings, senses and the surrounding environment and accepting it without judgment.

If you find it difficult to sit quietly and meditate in the traditional manner a productive alternative is moving meditation. Many activities can be used as an opportunity to cultivate peace and serenity; Yoga, Tai Chi, walking, dancing and playing a musical instrument are all forms of a moving meditation.

Be present to your morning activities

Practicing mindfulness means being and living in the present moment; taking time to become aware of your surrounding environment. Your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations are in tune with what’s happening around you on purpose.

So whether you’re making breakfast, taking a shower, or walking the dog, it’s good practice to stay in the present moment. Let yourself experience the sights, sounds, and smells that surround you.

Begin to develop a deep and connected appreciation of where you are and what you are doing. Living mindfully will keep you anchored in the present and will help you appreciate your day-to-day life more fully.

Break the fast

Mornings can be a hectic time; it’s easy to let breakfast fall to the bottom of your list of priorities. A healthy breakfast fuels your body and your brain after a long overnight fast. Skipping breakfast means you’re effectively running on empty.

Take pleasure in mealtime by incorporating one of the primary practices of mindfulness; slowing down and savoring your food. If you’re guilty of the ‘gobble, gulp, and go’ routine of mealtime it’s time to reawaken your sense of satisfaction. Take the time to eat a healthy breakfast, it will make a noticeable difference in your day.

Surrender to what lies before you

It’s easy to let your mind wander; getting yourself wrapped up and anxious about the busy day that you have ahead of you. Setting such a negative tone for the day will embroil you in an inner battle with yourself by fighting the day.

You must work diligently to change your mindset; look forward to embracing the day and making a difference. When you can be present in the moment, surrendering to the task at hand, you will create positive energy. It won’t always be easy, but I promise you it will be worth it.

Your body is a direct reflection of what’s going on in your mind

The way you begin your morning matters; it will set the tone for the rest of your day. It’s important to create a routine to help awaken your body and mind from a state of sleep.

I’m sure you’re well aware of which morning habits aren't serving you. Focus on the things you can do to make your morning routine more fruitful. Aim for consistency. Strive for progress, not perfection.
