About Jean Fitzpatrick

Hello! I'm Jean Fitzpatrick and, as a midtown Manhattan marriage counselor and psychotherapist, I have been lucky enough to serve couples and individuals in the New York area for over twenty years. Busy New Yorkers tell me that in the midst of their hectic week our sessions offer a peaceful, nurturing place to get in touch with their best self and find a new balance in life.  I help busy people "expand their relationship toolkit" and discover new ways to connect with the people they love.

Often people tell me they worrry that they're with the wrong person because they argue so much.  They may enjoy each other's company and even feel like soul mates, but the fighting is just toxic.  Good news:  you can learn how to transform your approach to conflict so that instead of feeling sick to your stomach about it, you gain a sense that your disagreements actually help you understand each other and grow closer.   Helping people gain that sense of accomplishment is what motivates me in my work and makes it so satisfying.

The awareness of a deeper meaning in life -- that "something more" that fills us up inside and brings a richer dimension to all our relationships -- has informed my published writing and my interviews. You may have seen me on CNN or in USA Today, in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the NY Daily News, or other media outlets where the subject is relationships, marriage and family life. My articles have appeared in many national magazines, including Parents, Working Mother, The New York Times Magazine, and Family Circle, and I have written 6 books on family life.

In my practice I work with young singles in the big city...with couples who want to improve their relationship...with people recovering from a loss or recognizing that some childhood experiences are getting in the way of a fuller life now. I do pre-marriageprebaby and postpartum counseling.

I see therapy as a shared creative process. Stories, art and poetry open us up to the wisdom of our heart, where we discover the strength and wisdom to tackle problems and create the life we really want.

Here in the YourTango community, where people bring their questions and worries about relationships, I am excited to to use my skills, life experience, and creativity to help you discover your own strengths and move toward the life and relationships you long for. I look forward to hearing from you.
