How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?

How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?
Love, Heartbreak

Say goodbye once and for all

Step Five. Celebrate! This can be a private celebration or a public one.  It can be loud or quiet.  It can be big or small.  Do something to acknowledge the completion of the past and living powerfully from this moment on!  Some people take trips.  Others, celebrate with friends.  Some spend the day in a sacred way, journaling, meditating.  Some share with their closest friends.  And still others create a symbolic ritual, perhaps burning a photo, or throwing away a long treasured item from the past or blowing out a candle and lighting a new one.  Some go dancing, some go sky diving.  It doesn’t matter how you choose to celebrate so long as you acknowledge the past is dead and the future is filled with possibility and promise.

This last step is key since we tend to move on so quickly ready to just jump right in to our next endeavor, without any real acknowledgement or for what we’ve accomplished, what has passed, what has been freed.  Mending a broken heart - especially if it’s been going on for months - can be a painful experience, especially since you’ve been reliving this pain, this story for several months, some of us for years.  The celebration is the acknowledgement of all you’ve done to move past this hurt, this pain in your life.  It is an acknowledgement that you are living for today.  It is a symbol of living in the present and embracing a new future, one with hope, filled with possibility.

Ultimately, no one can put a time on how long it takes for any one person to heal.  If you find at any point during this process, or any process you are using to “get over a break up” that you still feel stuck, there is no substitute for professional coaching and/or counseling.  The feeling of being stuck means there is definitely a barrier that needs to be explored and you may need professional support to move beyond this point in your healing.  Don’t allow your past to punish your future.  Seek the help you need immediately.  The sooner you reach out, the sooner you can move forward in your life.

And your life, your love is waiting for you – ready to be claimed by those who dare to open their hearts, trust themselves, and love again.
