About Gina Ogden

I’m Dr. Gina Ogden and it is my joy to help people open up to the hidden and sacred parts of themselves. I’m a writer, teacher, sexologist, and shamanic practitioner—all of these dimensions come out to play in the workshops and trainings I conduct at Esalen Institute, Coastal Mexico, and other wonderful places I get to teach.

As a sex therapist, I heard so many clients talking about spirituality that I conducted the first (and only) nationwide survey: “Integrating Sexuality and Spirituality” (ISIS). Amazing responses from almost 4,000 women and men from every state in the U.S. inspired the ISIS model I now use to supervise and train sex therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, family therapists, and other health providers.

Books! So far I’ve written seven, all with major publishers. "The Return of Desire," "Women Who Love Sex," and "The Heart & Soul of Sex" are the three most recent. What’s new? I’m writing one for health providers: "Expanding the Practice of Sex Therapy—An Integrative Model for Exploring Desire and Intimacy" I’ll follow this up with mind-blowing material in "Sex Therapy Meets Shamanism." For fun, I’m collaborating with an artist friend on "The ABCs of Love and Sex"—an interactive confection for readers ready to expand their own alphabets of sexual intimacy.

Along the way, I’ve been on hundreds of media shows from talk radio to Oprah Winfrey. You may have seen my quotes in magazines like Women’s Health and Vogue—or read my articles in Ms.,Parade, Fitness, or Ladies Home Journal, or seen pieces by me or about me on websites from Prevention, Beliefnet, and Tantra.com to Carnal Nation.

As an associate professor of sexology at the Institute for Advanced of Human Sexuality, an AASECT-certified sex-therapy diplomate and sex therapy supervisor, and a clinical fellow of AAMFT, I feel blessed to be at the top tier of my profession. I’m also an active member of many other professional organizations including The Authors Guild, The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) and the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). I’m on the advisory board of Sex Coach U, a premier training institute. I donate consultation time to Our Bodies, Ourselves, the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality, and Contemporary Sexuality, the monthly AASECT journal, and much more.

Please check out my website—and also the ISIS Network which I have founded. We’re an international community of practitioners whose mission is to expand the practice of sex therapy beyond beyond limiting notions of function and dysfunction to include a wide range of experiences. I invite you to join us!
