Going out to eat at a big chain restaurant is already blurring the lines of managing a healthy diet and fully splurging. No matter what you order, the calories, fat, and sodium are incredibly high. Once you add on appetizers, drinks, and those larger-than-life desserts, you’ve eaten a couple of days’ worth of calories. You know it’s true as you waddle back to your car and pray for the forgiveness of stretchy pants awaiting you at home.

Trim the fat, literally, by skipping the worst appetizers on popular restaurant menus.

If you’re that hungry by the time you get seated, order a small garden salad with a vinaigrette dressing on the side and a glass of water.
