The first study was performed on a group of 66 subjects, all with Type 2 Diabetes. They were randomly assigned into two groups: one that received supplemental resveratrol and one that received placebo tablets. After 45 days the resveratrol group showed significantly lower blood pressure, fasting blood glucose and lower insulin resistance levels as well as other benefits. In addition the resveratrol group’s good cholesterol levels were higher.
In the second study, involving 62 patients with Type 2 diabetes, one group received oral hypoglycemic agents while the other received oral medications and resveratrol. After three months the resveratrol group showed improvement in their blood pressure and cholesterol among other things. No difference was found in cholesterol levels in this study.
These two studies show promise in helping those with Type 2 Diabetes better control their disease. What will the future hold for resveratrol and diabetes? We are excited to find out.
