If you can't afford "me" time, spend some "we" time instead.

4. Go to the movies. This is a great way to escape from the day-to-day routines of being a single parent. You can make the date special by creating a routine when you go — a little popcorn and a cup of soda — then sit back, watch the movie and escape. When the movie is over, you have a great topic you can talk about with your kids.

5. Try something totally new. One time, I took my son to an archery range to learn how to shoot with a bow and arrow. Another time, I took him to a shooting range to teach both of us gun safety and give us the experience of shooting a pistol. Trying something new diverts our mental energy which providing a stress relief. And it's also a common experience that can help build or deepen your parent-child bond.

Sure, at times we single parents do need "me" time. But if you're also trying to relieve stress, you can use your kids as an excuse to act silly and do something fun. And it has a triple benefit of helping you manage your emotional state, be something that brings you closer to your kids, and remind you of your inner child.
