Her background includes training and in-depth study in holistic nutrition and wellness, Vinyasa yoga, Vipassana mindfulness meditation, Re-Evaluation Counseling, child developmental psychology, Neo-Reichian and Neo-Freudian modalities, Neuro-Linguistic Patterning and the Family Systems and Constellations work of Bert Hellinger. She pays grateful homage to the life's work of David Deida, Carl Buchheit and Michelle Masters of NLP Marin, Kassy Shecklehoff and all the teachers of Morehouse, Regena Thomashauer (aka Mama Gena), Riane Eisler, Esther Perel, Dr. Patricia Taylor, Dr. Christiane Northrup, Joshua Rosenthal of Integrative Nutrition, Landmark Education, Osho, Dolano, Anthony Robbins and her own extraordinary parents.

Fun, somewhat related tidbits: for the ten years prior to her work in the field of relationships and intimacy, LiYana was a professional modern dancer for over 10 years, touring throughout the US and Europe, most notably with the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York City. Before landing her big break, she inhaled enough second-hand smoke to kill a small horse while bartending in Alphabet City and somehow managed to not get fired for spilling orange juice on Monica Lewinsky at a 5-star brunch joint in SoHo. LiYana studied art in Siena, Italy and her oil paintings have been displayed upon gallery walls as far uptown as Lincoln Center and as far downtown as an East Village tattoo store. She leaves singing to the professionals, save for showers and the occasional solo car ride. LiYana speaks fairly good Dutch, a decent amount of Italian and just enough French to have an incendiary conversation about love, yet stay out of jail.

The Reason I Became A Helping Professional

On an intentional community in the mountains of northern New Mexico, I was born “out of the box” and was raised with liberal doses of critical thinking and creative encouragement. But the community dissolved in a rather spectacular explosion of interpersonal and legal flames about 10 years in, taking with it years off my parents' lives, hundreds of thousands of dollars, acres of land with gorgeous dreams once attached to it, and the somewhat naive but precious spirit of brother/sisterhood spawned by the 1960's.

I watched, in my mute but aware 10-year old body, sure that the battle that was waging could be completely avoidable with some decent communication and the paradigm shift that's only possible when admiring a ball of wax from all sides -- insides too.

Unable to save my childhood home, I turned all my passion to the fascinating field of love, sex, intimacy, human relating - and ultimately a life that bowls you over with its exquisiteness.

If you're looking for a shining example of consciously choosing the relationship-road-less-traveled, stumbling on the Shangri-La of Epic Love and strewing both path and destination with re-traceable breadcrumbs for all, you've found the right woman. Seriously, if you require recognizable letters after my name on a tidy plaque, there are plenty of folks who'll do you right proud, but I'm afraid it's not me.

Coming firmly from the Vedic Tantric philosophic view of things, I hold the perspective that being human is not a fallen condition, nor is there anywhere the divine could not be. With an admittedly reverently irreverent tongue, I am deeply committed to unlocking human potential through appreciation of our humanity and embodiment of our divinity.

I get up in the morning for the alchemy of transforming complex, difficult and emotionally-charged concepts into accessible and instantly usable information, tools, experiences and skills for more love than you ever thought possible. Sometimes it seems that getting along with those we love and having wildly satisfying sex lives and relationships are a deep chasm away - but over 10 years of working with clients has assured me many times over that it's only a paper ceiling's worth.

My secret mission (well, not so secret now, eh?) is to cease the relationship warfare caused by our misunderstanding of others as well as ourselves, to help renovate the power-over-another model into one of true partnership, and to get our relationships fully Powered by Pleasure.

I am deeply honored to be in an exquisite, passionate and magical relationship for over 9 years strong. I'm happy to say we've done it a thousand "wrong" ways, as well as some just plain painful ways, so I can at the very least save you many wretched years of misery, breakups, hair-pulling, blaming, shaming and giving up and becoming a nun (hard business if you're a guy).

We made it through, and boy did we ever. I consider my relationship one of my proudest accomplishments, a living work of art co-created with my husband, Nathan.
