I Believe

"Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
You can live life or you can exist in it until you die. Your choice. Life is not a practice."

"You are free to choose, but you are not free to choose the consequences of your choice."

John 3:36

About Shelley Skas

Making a decision to enter therapy is something that most people take on with a great deal of thought.  Who needs help? Everyone needs help at some point in their lives. When? Well that depends on how you feel about what’s happening to you. Some people ponder issues for a long time before they’re ready for something to change.  Other people are incredibly impulsive and look for help as soon as the warning signs show up.  We’re all different in this regard.

But what I know is that the moment you’re ready, you’re ready.  And that’s where I come in.  Lots of people ask me why I got into this field: You want to listen to people’s problems all day long?  Actually yes, I do.  I see myself as someone who is trained to listen to just the right parts of a conversation so I can help you pinpoint what’s really causing your pain, and take some quick steps to change things.

My specialty is kids and families.  I’m a mom; I know what it’s like to live in a chaotic environment with no time for you and more to do that you can imagine.  And I know what happens when families start to break down; when one person becomes the “problem” and everyone tries to fix it.  Working with families means understand the glue that holds everyone together and how it gets fractured when there’s pain in one person’s life.  I help families get back together, whatever that ultimately ends up looking like.

I’m also a wife who knows the complicated nature of marriages and relationships.  Look, none of this is easy; if we had working manuals to tell us what to do most of us would follow them.  Working on dating, marriage and relationship challenges is critical to keeping families intact and modeling healthy examples for our kids.

So if you’re struggling, I’m here.  My team is here.  And we do it all.  Families, individual work, couples you name it.  If you’re looking to feel better; to stop suffering and start living the life you know you deserve take a moment and give us a call.

Oh and we’re qualified too… licensed in counseling, offices in Orland Park (outside of Chicago) and holding Type 73 certification in school counseling. We take insurance and work with private pay clients as well and if you’re asking clinically, our areas of expertise are emotional and behavioral problems.
