I BelieveGot parenting problems? Kids driving you nuts? I can help! I work with parents on homework issues, divorce and parenting ideas. I am a Professional Counselor, Parent Consultant, Speaker and Trainer. I help children with a number of issues including anxiety, misbehavior, ADHD, and many other issues.
I received my Master of Education degree in 1988 from James Madison University and my Post-Master’s Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1994 from Virginia Tech. From 1988 until 1995 I was an elementary school counselor for Fairfax County, VA where I gained a ton of skills on how to help children and families. I began my private practice in 1995 at The Arbor Center, a group practice where I honed my skills as a counselor and learned from some of the best in the area. Since 1999, I have practiced independently, focusing on issues with children, adolescents, and adults. I am a member of the Marriage and Family Therapy faculty at the Virginia Tech Graduate School, where I teach a course on how to counsel children and teenagers. I am also writing a book: “HomeWork – A Parent’s Guide To Reduce Homework Stress”. I have worked with so many parents that struggle with finding the right level of involvement with their kid’s school work, I thought I would write a book with my ideas and suggestions. Review of "Parenting With Purpose"
September 2010 Mr. McNerney’s “Parenting with Purpose” presentation is a phenomenal program, which provided our Stone Hill parents with concrete, usable ideas on how to keep your calm and avoid allowing your child to “push your buttons.” After hearing Mr. McNerney’s presentation, our guidance department was immediately inundated with requests to have him come back and present again! Parents everywhere can benefit from learning the information in Mr. McNerney’s “Parenting with Purpose” program! Jennifer Alberth School Counselor Stone Hill Middle School Loudoun County, VA
Feedback from "Parenting With Purpose" Seminar
Hi Neil I wanted to personally thank you for all the time and energy you put into your presentation for our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group on September 24. I know your time is very valuable and we are so appreciative for your expertise. We valued everything you said and were eager to learn from your research and field experience. That kind of knowledge is invaluable to us moms who are looking for suggestions and information to make us better parents. You did that for us; you made us more aware of our behaviors and how to improve them. I especially liked learning about the different ways we scream as parents. It was very enlightening and surly gave us all something to think about. Once again, thank you so much for your time. You have left us more knowledgeable and that is something we will carry with us as we trudge forward in motherhood. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your time with MOPS Group tomorrow. Sincerely, Jeannie
