The Reason I Became A Helping Professional

Dr. Ruth Neustifter, MSSW-MFT University instructor, published author, respected presenter and dedicated activist, Ruth Neustifter holds a doctoral degree in Child & Family Development with specializations in Couples and Family Therapy and Qualitative Research. She began her training, research and work in the areas of relationships, sexuality and recovery from intimate partner violence over a decade ago. During that time she has taught and presented in venues ranging from independent sexuality boutiques to university classrooms and international conferences. Her writing can be found throughout the internet and in publications including the Journal of Feminist Family Therapy and The Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality. After offering sexuality education and relationship coaching for several years, she developed her first formal sexuality well-being program in cooperation with a domestic violence shelter, in response to the need for services targeting the prevention of later adult sexual abuse. There, she realized that education and outreach based on pleasure and well-being was also a more enjoyable and successful route to safer, healthier sex. She has written and presented on this work extensively, and continues to do original research with survivors of intimate partner violence. This experience, and many others, have inspired her to help a diverse range of clients to experience the sexual pleasure and intimacy that they deserve. Often, this is well beyond what they have ever imagined could be possible before beginning their work together. Her clients reflect a truly diverse range of genders, sexualities, relationship types, and religions. Each client is a course of inspiration and brings joy and energy to her work. Affectionately known by her clients and co-workers as Dr. Ruthie, she makes her home in the DC area with her partner and pets. She offers private appointments and professional consultation services internationally, with appoints in-person, by phone, and online.
