About Julie Cohen

Julie Cohen is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) with a private practice in Los Angeles. Her areas of focus include: depression, anxiety, panic, post-traumatic stress, grief & loss, and gay & lesbian issues. She has an eclectic theoretical orientation and employs a combination of theories during treatment such as; psychodynamic, cognitive, existential and strength based. This combination has been very effective in processing/resolving issues related to; life transitions, self-esteem, personal growth, career/work, relationships, sexual orientation and coming out. In addition to her private practice, Ms. Cohen is a clinical supervisor to MFT interns at Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services which treats at-risk children and adolescents. She is also a health blogger to the website DailyStrength.org, The internet's largest online support community. Ms. Cohen has more than 19 years of clinical experience working in the mental health field. Her early training focused on trauma recovery. She also served as Director of Clinical Services at a community-based domestic violence shelter and counseling center. As director, Ms. Cohen created one of the first counseling programs in the country to address the mental health needs of children victimized by domestic violence. Ms Cohen earned a Masters Degree in Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, and a BA in Child Development with an emphasis in Child Mental Health, both from California State University Northridge. She is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
