As a relationship coach who works primarily with some very successful women, there’s one big mistake I see women make over and over again in their relationships with men. I know for a fact that this problem sabotages – and kills – millions of potential relationships before they ever get off the ground – and I also know it’s 100% preventable. Here’s the problem:
Tom was English, an army vet and dirty in a way that made me think he would be good in bed. I was somewhat mistaken. Things went from blah to worse when I realized that we went to bed at the exact wrong time in my menstrual cycle. Too bad about my comforter...
The sparks were not exactly flying in the first place, but it was when I ordered french fries to go with my vod-cran (which I made sure never to let out of my sight) and he gave me the "side eye" that I realized things were really not going to work out.
Many people would say that there are dangers of dating a criminal and even advocate checking criminal records of online daters. In many situations where your potential date is a criminal there is reason to be cautious. Sometimes this fact will be a good reason to not pursue a relationship or even a date. Despite my colleagues' teasing, I had no interest in dating Damon at first, a clever medical resident at the hospital where I worked. But, I began to look for him at work despite myself. When Josh walked in, all the girls let out a collective "OMG!" gasp. He was well over six feet tall, with short brown hair, piercing blue eyes and full sleeve tattoos. For a group of women who all harbored a predilection for all things rocker-related, he was a vision. He was hot and he could cook. Could it get any better?
At first sight, Jim had already met my image of the perfect boyfriend: cute, boy next door with trusting eyes. I check out his profile -- it's kind of vague, but funny. I have now decided this could be the perfect guy! He then asks me about my work and I in return ask what he does ...
The next time one of your dates heads south, instead of just thinking what you'd write in YourTango's Dating Disasters, think of taking out your iPhone or digital camera and making a video. Make sure it's obvious why you've had a "Bad Date." You can narrate it, you can ask questions, you can record yourself and, with his or her consent, you can "shoot" your date.
Anyone who has ever been on a first date has come to the conclusion that most folks just shouldn't date. If that's never dawned on you, then YOU probably shouldn't be dating. Last week a phenomenal Twitter trend really helped crystalize why someone of you poor, poor people will likely end up alone. Enjoy.
