Amid the excitement of the final days of the World Cup, there is also sadness, as one of Brazil's most famous soccer players was arrested yesterday. 25-year-old goalie Bruno Fernandes is accused of arranging the murder of his lover, Eliza Samudio, also 25, after she became pregnant and refused to have an abortion. According to the Guardian, the couple met last year at a party and Samudio became pregnant after their first encounter. After she decided to keep the child, who is now 4 months old, Fernandes allegedly lured her to a small town outside of Rio de Janeiro where she was beaten, killed by an accomplice, and had some of her body parts fed to a dog.
You would think that the logical thing to do immediately after brutally murdering someone in your hotel room would be to either freak out or try to cover up the evidence, or both, but, evidently, there’s nothing logical going on in the mind of suspected serial killer Joran Van Der Sloot. In the latest weird detail to emerge from the gruesome murder investigation, Joran confessed to Peruvian police that he sat on the edge of his hotel bed, right next to the bloodied body of 21-year-old Stephanie Flores, and snacked on sponge cake and espresso immediately following her death, reports the New York Post. Never mind that there was blood oozing out of her head or that one of her eyes was dangling out of its socket, killing somebody seems to have made Joran work up an appetite.
We're sad to report that former New York Giants football player Lawrence Taylor was arrested for rape in the wee hours of Thursday morning in New York, CBS reports. The football legend, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in in 1999, stands accused of paying a 16-year-old runaway girl, who was brought to Taylor's hotel room against her will, $300 to have sex with him.
