Don’t get me wrong, I think professional coaching can be incredibly valuable. I’ve known people who have been able to overcome their fear of public speaking or talking to strangers at networking events by working with a great coach. Whether the coach put their client in intimidating situations as a form of overcoming their fears or some other strategy, often the results were long lasting. The mark of a good coach is the tangible and positive difference their work has made in a person’s life.
We can’t control everything that goes on in our environment. We can’t control when things are going to go completely south just as much as we can’t control when we might suddenly hit huge success. We work really hard in our lives for various things and then one day our mother gets cancer or, conversely, we win the lottery and BAM!
