Mel and Robyn married on June 7, 1980 in Forestville, New South Wales. The couple first met when they were both living in Adelaide during the late 1970s. The pair have seven children including Hannah, Edward and Christian (twins), William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas. They also have two grandchildren. Robyn eventually filed for divorce on April 13, 2009 after the couple was separated for about three years.
