ALONE

Social Media is any online interaction between two or more people using applications such as FaceBook, Blogger, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress, MySpace and YouTube (to name a few). I would also add text messaging, BBM and other phone communication to the list. In most the Western world, there are over 75% of the population using these social networking applications . FaceBook comes on top all over the world as the most used social network with one in every 9 people on earth is on FaceBook . That’s an astounding statistic!

I love my husband and two kids, enormously. But I love being alone, too, and for long stretches. It's what feels natural to me, a former happy loner. This was my biggest concern before getting married: could I live with someone, or several someones, for an extended time, no matter how much love was involved? To my relief, I discovered having a family, and living with them, is lovely... but only most of the time.

As Flannery O’Connor continues to remind us, a good man is hard to find.

They didn't set out to be single, and they're still open to meeting a soul mate. Meet the new generation of women who are on their own and loving their happily never after.

Single ladies: don't be in such a rush to "put a ring on it." Enjoy this time while you have it. Don't spend so much time and energy looking for a mate because, once you have one, you're stuck with him for life. Take this time to learn to enjoy yourself, so that you're fully equipped to continue doing it when you're married.

I have big plans for my birthday this month. BIG ones. Wanna hear them? OK, I’m gonna sit at home in my pajamas, eat chocolate cake and watch reruns of “The Gilmore Girls.”

When I tell other women about my hour of self-imposed isolation, they seem to become anxious. Some feel that the desire to be alone, without the company of others, is unnatural and maybe even too self-indulgent. I've had women tell me they could never choose to take an hour of isolation because they have too many responsibilities.

Not that I mind being single - I have actually gotten quite used to it - I just worry that spending so much time depending on myself and myself only has sorta made me….too single.

I’m taking pains not to slip back into that awful mode of helicopter spouse. He’s being more careful this time not to look like he’s slipping into eternal weekend mode. While we’re a little freaked out and holding each other close, it’s not like we’re having to recover from another unexpected great blow. It feels like an open moment, both for Marco and for our relationship. We’re both on the tightrope, keeping our balance.
