It's the first time this has happened and is only the beginning of the life we've imagined.

On Saturday, December 2nd, we experienced the beginning of the Jupiter and Neptune trine, the first of three alignments over the next 9 months. The next two will follow in both May and August of 2018.

But what is a trine? It’s when the planets are 120 degrees apart in the zodiac chart. The planets are all in harmony, meaning they increase activity and success.

Each year, there tends to be one or two major astrological factors that not only strike a mood over the course of the entire year, but also set us on a certain path of lessons or self-discovery.

A few years ago we had Saturn and Neptune squares which rocked many of us from the lives we had known, pushing toward a greater destiny than we could have even imagined. And now, we have Jupiter, the planet of luck, and expansion trining Neptune, the planet of dreams and romance.

It won’t be all about love and relationships, but the truth is that the relationships we chose to be in not only affect us in our individual lives but also the greater collective because of the choices we make and the vibration we send out.

Think back several decades ago when people generally married younger and women were still told their place was in the home; not only did those choices affect the lives each person lived, but they also affected the flow and development of the overall society as well.

It’s time for us to start a shift. All it takes is one look at social media feeds to see that there is more going on the world than we frankly can handle. We have men dropping like flies to the #MeToo movement and a president who still encourages others to grab women by their genitals. We have catastrophic storms, rising sea levels, increasing air temperatures and wars over depleting natural resources.

Something has got to shift, and the reality may be that this Jupiter and Neptune trine just may be the starting point for all of us to do that.

The really unique aspect of this trine is that it has never before occurred in any of our lifetimes, so there is no point of reference as to what occurred ten or even one hundred years ago. Simply put: this will be the first time such a trine has occurred.

Yet, even with so much unknown, we can still use what we do know about these two planets to piece together what can be expected during this time, including what it may mean for the bigger theme in 2018.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and symbolizes optimism, fate, happiness, good luck and the wonderment of what can happen if we make the choice go with every aspect of our life. Neptune is the planet of dreams, romance, spirituality, all things esoteric, beauty, and also the illusions that we either chose to deceive ourselves by or that others try to impose upon us.

When these two planets collide, it’s like an ocean meeting in the sky, and the waves from these two planets aligned will affect each and every one of us. These planets are both in water signs during the next year: Scorpio for Jupiter and Neptune has returned home in Pisces. Not only do we have their governing traits at play, but we also have these two sun signs dictating how we will feel these energies here on earth.

This is why we can’t say that this time of expansion and fate will all be about love. The reality is with Scorpio, the sign of soulmates, and Pisces, the sign of romance, in the picture, we’re all going to be drawn into our hearts.

Maybe there is a lot on our plates right now, with the current political system and environmental issues, but we will be better equipped to handle them when we have love at home.

I suppose this is one of those ideas that can be misconstrued or twisted, but when we feel loved and supported at home, as if our very dreams are worthy of recognition and we have unconditional and unwavering support and love, there isn’t anything we can’t accomplish in the outside world.

Yes, we need to be able to provide those qualities to ourselves and to learn what it means to be in relationship to another in a very conscious way, but we also all need someone, we need love.

No one is born into this life and then placed into isolation to mature into adulthood, so to be weary or reluctant to say we need someone is just our egos talking. We’ve been spoon-fed this notion that to need is to be weak. Yet, it’s really just a requirement for not only living, but for a greater sense of emotional and physical health as well.

During this transit and each of the following transits, expect some big news on the world stage: political events, news or developments about the environment and the ongoing releasing of the divine feminine into the world with the strength to speak up for what she knows is right.

But at home, expect the unexpected. This means that while we will continue to see a plethora of engagements, elopements, and expecting announcements, they will also be done in a very off the beaten path kind of way. Almost as if they took things not just to a new level, but to a whole new way of thinking. Couples will elope unexpectedly on mountain tops, travel the world with newborns, or decide to move in and share their lives together as they try to make the world a better place.

It’s all on the table and it’s all up for discussion; after all, the only reason we’ve always done things like we have is because that’s the way everyone else has always done them.

This trine is not only going to be calling for global change but also change how we approach and process relationships and move through love and commitment.

Just because we’ve always done something a certain way doesn’t mean that we should keep doing it. And Jupiter and Neptune are here to remind us how the big the world is once we step outside of the little box we’ve been living in.
