When most people start a new relationship, they don’t think about cheating at first — they’re too wrapped up in the excitement and their fascination with their partner.
When you feel like you’ve met your soulmate, why would you even think about cheating? This person just seems so perfect, you’re sure you’ve found “the one” and that no one else will ever be as interesting or enchanting.
But eventually, alas, the novelty wears off. You’ve learned all there is to know about your beloved, there are no more surprises, and the daily routine, while comfortable and familiar, starts to make you wonder what else there might be out there.
We all know how that feels. Some people really appreciate this phase of a long-term relationship. After all, we know that just because the excitement won’t last forever doesn’t mean that the relationship has failed.
Many people sigh with relief when it’s time to trade the giddy head-over-heels feeling for a quiet sense of security and trust. Others, though, feel that the passion and infatuation of brand new love should last forever, and without these feelings, it can’t be real love.
Your daily horoscope might be able to warn you if your partner is thinking about cheating, but to really spot the signs ahead of time, you’ll want to get a look at their natal chart and the current planetary transits.
Are there a lot of planets gathering in their fifth house (the segment of the chart that rules new love and passion)? Is transit Mars making a difficult aspect to their natal Mars or Venus’ positions? Mars and Venus are associated with sex and romance, so when they’re not getting along, it creates stress and uncertainty.
Not everyone is going to resort to cheating when they’re unhappy with their partner, but why do people cheat? Here's why each zodiac sign cheats in a relationship.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
Impulsive Aries is ruled by Mars, a planet of intense passion. Aries might not even need a reason to cheat: when they see something or someone they want, they tend to forget about promises they’ve made and their responsibilities to other people.
Predictable routines are sure to make Aries antsy, though, so if you’re worried about your Aries stepping out on you, try to keep them on their toes with frequent fun surprises.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus appreciates predictability and security, so they’re not likely to cheat unless they feel they have no other choice. As the sign of luxury and material comforts, Taurus thrives on sensual touch.
If their partner isn’t physically affectionate enough for them (not just sexually — Taurus needs gentle caresses and plenty of hugs too), they might feel the need to find someone who can meet those needs.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Are you sure your Gemini meant it when they promised to remain faithful to you or is that just what you wanted to hear? Gemini tends to be fickle and flighty, and they tend to be big-time flirts, too.
Because they get caught up in the energy of whoever they’re around, sometimes the flirting goes too far before they even realize what they’re doing. Stay in touch with your Gemini throughout the day with clever banter and intellectual conversation to make sure you stay on their mind.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancer needs to love and be loved, but there has to be a real emotional bond before they feel comfortable enough to let someone into their heart. They’re one of the best signs for long-term partnerships because when Cancer gets attached to someone, they’re in it for life.
However, if that emotional bond grows weak over time, Cancer will eventually search for someone else to provide the support they need. Reassure your Cancer frequently and let them know that you appreciate the connection you share.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Despite their constant need for attention, Leo isn’t normally into cheating. Their devotion to those they love is as deep as their devotion to their own egos. If your Leo feels ignored, they’re more likely to pout and complain than go looking for love elsewhere.
But Leo is highly susceptible to flattery, so if someone else does happen along and gives them the praise and adoration they desire, they might just decide to take the opportunity.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
As a sign of service, Virgo wants to feel useful and needed. Their compulsion to “fix” everyone makes them vulnerable to anyone with a good sob story, and sometimes these platonic relationships can get a lot more intense than Virgo bargained for.
Virgo doesn’t tend to go looking for opportunities to cheat, but they frequently find themselves backed into an emotional corner where it seems like they don’t have a choice.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Libra is highly sensitive to imbalance in the energy of any situation, including in their relationships. They need their partner to be their equal in everything, someone who can “complete” them.
If your Libra is feeling like the two of you just don’t “fit”, they’ll be on the lookout for someone who suits them better. Don’t try to change your whole personality just to please them, but be aware of problem areas — Libra is a born negotiator is will probably be willing to work on it with you as a team.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
If your Scorpio isn’t already cheating on you, they’re probably thinking about it. As we all know, this sign is associated with sexuality, and it’s rare to find a Scorpio who doesn’t at least fantasize about sleeping with a different person every day.
With their passionate, secretive nature and a love of drama, Scorpio might cheat on their mate just to keep things interesting. Can you bring enough drama and intensity into their lives to keep them intrigued and faithful?
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Sagittarius is always looking ahead, anticipating the next big adventure. If their partner isn’t as curious and active as they are, they may very well turn to other people who can keep up with them.
Sagittarius knows that they have issues with long-term commitments. Because they don’t want to hurt anyone, this sign is one of the least likely to get involved in a serious relationship in the first place.
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Unlike Sagittarius, Capricorn lives for the long-term. Responsible and disciplined, they aren’t predisposed to cheat on their mates. One thing that will drive them away is if their partner changes too much over the course of the relationship.
We all grow and evolve over the years, but Capricorn appreciates predictability. If their mate starts to seem like a completely different person, they’ll become uncomfortable, and may go looking for someone else who reminds them of the “old days”.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
Your Aquarius won’t start cheating on a whim. When Aquarius makes a promise, they take it seriously… until they start feeling trapped. They need time alone, and when they want company, they don’t want to be told who they can and cannot hang out with.
Aquarius can’t stand clingy, needy mates who can’t give them breathing room. When they feel like they can’t get away from you, they might consider cheating as an act of self-preservation.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces is in love with love and takes their emotional connections seriously. Unfortunately, Pisces is also subject to an over-active imagination, sometimes even delusions.
Pisces needs someone who will encourage their magnificent visions, but who can also help them keep one foot grounded in reality. Without that kind of support, Pisces is easily swept off their feet by anyone with a great story who can appeal to their over the top romantic daydreams.
